Napoleon I, gaining victory in the French Revolution, entrusted Chalgrin to design the arch as a commemoration. Its splendid appearance brings a crown of coronation at Notre Dame to mind. It is situated in the Place de l'Etoile (Place Charles-de-Gaulle) where 12 avenues, such as Avenue de Champs-Elyses were brought together by a city remodeling project. I like Paris best of all.
