You may have heard that it is unsafe to send your credit card information over the Internet. Arizona Opera wishes to assure you that it is safe to use your credit card to purchase tickets from the Virtual Box Office and merchandise from the online Opera Shop.

In 1996, an article in the Washington Post by Rob Pegoraro, David Medine of the Federal Trade Commission is quoted as saying that it is much safer to transmit your credit card number over the Internet than to give it to a waiter at a restaurant or read it aloud over a cordless phone - both activities considered safe by most people. AT&T's Universal Card division reports no cases to date of credit card number theft during transmission over the Internet.

Arizona Opera's Virtual Opera House makes use of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology built into our webserver and the leading web browsers to protect sensitive data during transmission. That information is then temporarily stored in a secure file system until it is retrieved.

The Virtual Box Office uses a "cookie" to store basic information you have entered into the Virtual Box Office forms. This information is stored on your computer, not on our webserver. Your section preference, show time preference,name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and mailing list preference (add/don't add) are all stored. None of this information may be accessed by forms other websites. Your credit card information is not saved to prevent unauthorized users of your computer from gaining access to it.

A "Forget My Info" button appears on each of the Virtual Box Office pages and on the response page after you have submitted your order. The button here will clear the information for both Phoenix and Tucson Virtual Box Office Users.
