Arizona Opera League Announces 1998 Opera Ball The Court of the Sun King: A Night in Versailles

The only event in Phoenix that can claim the captivating mystique of a night in Versailles, the Opera Ball is not only a night of excitement and intrigue for those who attend, but one of Arizona Opera's most effective fund raisers as well. Set amongst authentic opera sets, this night is a spectacle that can only be experienced at the Opera Ball. Chairpersons Gina Marie Quinn and John R. Becker's plans for this year's setting in the Palace of Versailles will be sure to provide mystery and charm to the exoticism of the evening. With the annual Opera Ball, Arizona Opera League is becoming known for its ability to present extraordinary fund raising events. Because of the splendor involved with the production of Grand Opera, Arizona Opera is the only non profit organization in Arizona able to create such elaborate decor and dramatic themes by using its own set pieces and costumes. The 1997 Ball, A Night in the Forbidden City, and the 1996 Ball, A Night on the Nile, still have people talking. From Egyptian Pharaohs and Chinese Emperors, to French Royalty, year after year the Opera Ball's spectacle and excitement continues to grow. All proceeds raised by the Arizona Opera League directly benefit the Arizona Opera's funding efforts. Arizona Opera programs that are subsidized by the League's efforts include operational support for the opera's performances, and opera education programs in the state's schools. Ticket InformationThe Opera Ball will be held on April 4, 1998 at the Arizona Biltmore's Grand Pavilion. Tickets can be purchased for $200 per person or $400 per couple. Guests aged 35 and under may attend for $150 per person. Tickets may be ordered by calling Arizona Opera at 602-266-7464. The Opera Ball RaffleIn addition to the evening's festivities, the annual Opera Ball Raffle plays a major role in this fund raiser. The raffle is not only a way to indulge yourself, but to help Arizona Opera raise significant funds to benefit its educational programs, and the season's productions. Last year's raffle generated over $13,000 for the Opera's benefit. This year's grand prize is a cruise to the Aegean Sea and Istanbul. Raffle tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased by calling Arizona Opera at 602-266-7464. Tickets will also be available during performances of Cosi fan tutte and Tosca. Dress for the BallThe Arizona Opera Ball is a black tie event. However, as part of the fund-raising effort, 50 patrons will have the exclusive opportunity to wear authentic 17th & 18th Century costumes for the night of the Ball. Arizona Opera Costume Shop dressers, wig stylists and make-up artists will volunteer their time to dress and prepare these select patrons for the evening's event. Cost for rental of the imported costumes from London, make-up, wig styling, dressing and pre-event reception is $350 which will be donated to the Arizona Opera Costume Department.
