Opera Companies
Austin Lyric Opera
Austin's first professional opera company produces three major
operas between November and March each year. The site has information on the current season's
productions, ALO itself, events, education programs, and online ticket sales.
Beijing Opera Page
This is a neat site! Follow this link for the history of the Beijing Opera.
You'll be introduced to the highest form of expression in the Chinese culture.
How many branches of Chinese Opera are there? (Hint: over 1,000) What are the
famous Eight Model Plays? When was the Cultural Revolution? For answers to
these questions and information on the Plum Blossom Awards, music, face painting,

Central City Opera
Tucked in the mountains just west of Denver, you'll find a splendidly
restored Victorian jewel, the 1878 Central City Opera House. Information about this
season's performances, special events, and online ticket sales are available at the site.
Cincinnati Opera
The Cincinnati Opera site in Ohio offers information regarding the General
Director, their history, activities, current season and resources. They
welcome comments and suggestions.
Dicapo Opera Theater
A recently-remodeled theater presenting opera in New York, NY. The site
provides notes on the current season, special events, coming attractions, their
young artists program, children's chorus, renting the theater, and more.
Edinboro University of PA Opera
Research projects are welcomed here at
the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. You can browse through them or

Edmonton Opera
The website of Alberta, Canada's Edmonton Opera provides information on
the current season lineup, special events, and the history of the company. Although there are no
online ticket sales, pricing, seating charts, and order forms are provided.
English National Opera
Follow this link to a brief history about the largest theatre in London and
a link to the English National Ballet.
The Florentine Opera Company
The Florentine Opera Company has been presenting the fine art of opera to
Milwaukee, Wisconsin audiences for over six decades. Their excellent foray into the 'net includes
information on the current season and other events, how to purchase tickets, their history,
and their Opera Club.
Freiburger Theater
Visit Germany through the Freiburger Theater. You can view this site in
English, German or French! Whether you want to know about the city of Freiburg, the

Houston Grand Opera
Includes information on the current season, the company, their educational programs, directions, parking maps, etceteras. Tickets may be purchased online.
Huntsville Opera Theater
A volunteer, non-profit organization in Alabama dedicated to the production of
grand opera. Its purpose is to provide opportunity for local singers,
instrumentalists, designers, directors and technicians to perform. This site also
gives a performance history.
Livermore Valley Opera
This site has basic information for the Livermore Valley Opera, located in the
Tri-Valley area of California, about 60 miles East of San Francisco, and it's current
productions.
Los Angeles Opera
Everything you want to know about the L.A. Opera: schedules, casting, and
synopses for the current and past seasons; a calendar of events, parking information;

Lyric Opera of Chicago

Metropolitan Opera
This is the Internet foray of one of the oldest and largest opera companies in the United states. The site includes a season schedule, production information, synopses, the
Texaco-Metropolitan radio broadcast schedule, press releases, a trivia game, and extensive
historical notes. Tickets are available online. The

New Orleans Opera Association
This site gives a view of the current season.
New York City Opera Online
This site provides access to a dazzling array of performances scheduled for the
current season. You can also be victorious or stumped with their "City Opera
Quiz," or visit other links to the Opera World.
Opera Australia
The site includes information about the current season (at both
the Sydney Opera House and the Victorian Arts Center) and how to contact
Opera Australia. Tickets are available online.
Opera Factory
Located in London and a mix of classic repertoire and new
work, Opera Factory has been presenting for the past 14 years. This site
will show you how to be a friend of Opera Factory, tell you about their
education program and Summer school. You can also find out about their tours
and read up on "Tales from the Rehearsal Room."
Opera League of New Hampshire
The Opera League Of New Hampshire gives you brief synopses of the current season as well as the highlights of the past season. You can find out about the
Children's Opera Program, becoming a member, and other opera links from
around the world. They welcome suggestions and feedback!
Opera Memphis
Surf back in time through the history of Opera Memphis. Learn about the fires
that destroyed the two Tennessee Opera Houses and the different Opera Companies

Opera Pacific

Opera San Jose
At this site, you'll find synopses of operas for the current season
with cast biographies, information on education and outreach programs, and
notes on area restaurants.
Operissimo
This site, based in Zurich, Switzerland, presents a comprehensive
database of operas, composers, performers, recordings, and performances. Mainly, these are
cross-linked lists (i.e. composer pages have links to opera pages for that composer's operas,
opera pages list performers prepared for that opera's roles, linked performer pages list roles for
which that performer is prepared, etceteras.)
The Pittsburgh Opera

Prism Opera
Established in 1995, the Prism Opera was founded on the ensemble
philosophy of Opera productions. Singers are cast on how well they work as a

Reading University Opera

The third theatre to be built on the Covent Garden site, The Royal Opera House,
opened in 1892. This site will give you a complete history, directions, past and

San Francisco Opera
I don't think it's possible to not like something here.
San Francisco Opera shows you their amazing season at this site. Not only do
they offer familiar classics, but also "Pacific Visions," unusual
repertoire. You can learn about the history, the rebuilding process, and
opera in the park.
Santa Fe Opera Home Page
"Let the enchantment begin" ... at the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico.
Visit this site to find the Summer celebration! Some hilights: an upcoming season, a gala

Sarasota Opera
Quite a thorough web site. The Sarasota Opera in Florida is a restored
building originally constructed in 1926. The hall is now on the Historical Register
and hosts everything from Opera to comedy shows with clowns. The site provides a
full Opera calendar and some excellent synopses. Also you can find out
about the Youth Opera Festival (Opera performed by children) and the Masterworks
Revival Series (dedicated to bringing lesser-known operas out of obscurity.)
The Sydney Opera House
This site tells a bit about the Sydney Opera House and the
architect. The Sydney Opera House is one venue of Opera Australia, the
result of the merger of the Australian Opera and the Victorian State Opera. You can also
find out about tours, ticket prices, and the current schedule.
Tulsa Opera Brings Music to Life
"The thrill of attending an Opera is like sharing your most
intimate thoughts and passions with strangers ..." according to Carol I.
Crawford from Tulsa Opera, Oklahoma. At this site you'll find the current

Woodland Opera House. Declared a State Historic Park in 1981, it currently

per year. This year's book (1999,) three years in preparation, is An

Unfortunately, 28 out of the 63 links to this site have either moved, are
not found, or are not available. This site offers links to Opera (4 out of
14 are available), Classical (4 out of 7 are available), Jazz (3 out of 4
are available), Reggae (3 out of 4 available), Instruments (8 out if 12
available), Gregorian Chant (1 out of 2 available), Miscellaneous (6 out 8
are available) which includes Traditional Music and Dance Probability Hotlist,
Music Calendar and Samples, Celtic Music, and Acid Jazz; Teacher Resources
(4 out of 10 are available.) Although this is a great collection, the dead
links are frustrating.
